One thing Metallica has always been good about with its live shows is giving fans their money's worth with a battery of tunes from periods throughout the band's career.
This is particularly evident in recent footage released by the band from its European tour. As Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo wraps up Cliff Burton's classic solo from the band's first album, Metallica slips into one of its most progressive, boundary pushing tunes, "Call of Ktulu," from 1984's Ride the Lightning.
"Ktulu" was the instrumental finale of one of thrash metal's most important albums and signaled a major shift in Metallica's focus from straight thrash to a more thoughtful, melodic style, which they explored in further depth on 1986's Master of Puppets.
The footage comes from Metallica's February 9 show at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. It's edited with an interesting combination of what looks like smart phone cameras and HD cameras.
